Artistic intervention: bookmark(s), Nicole Ziegler, 2014/2015

After its opening, the Cathrin Pichler Archive can be visited and viewed for the first time as part of the Rundgang of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In addition to the presentation of the archive material, the archive cyclically shows artistic works which - in the sense of Cathrin Pichler - deal with thinking specific artistic methods and practices as a contribution and intervention to a scientific discourse.
The photo series bookmark(s) by Nicole Ziegler was created during the work at the Cathrin Pichler Archive from 2014 to 2015. The photographs show excerpts of opened pages from books in the archive - a finger points to a sentence or passage that is highlighted by this gesture. Nicole Ziegler avoids any indication or reference, so that the marked text stands for itself. The focus is thus primarily on the content, but the form of the print and the texture and color of the paper also gain in presence. As viewers, we are referred to selected passages of text, we see through the eyes of the artist and not only what is shown to us, but also the showing itself. The images are thus inherent not only in the text but also in the act of appropriation. During the exhibition in the Cathrin Pichler Archive, the photos will be presented on a touch screen, where one can turn the pages like in a book.
